we do quite a few indian weddings each year and one of my favorite parts of the ceremony is the baraat, the arrival of the groom and his friends to meet the bride’s family. This is traditionally done on a mare and includes groovin’ indian music payed on dhol (drums) and shehnais (kind of like a buzzy oboe) and the grooms procession dances the entire way. After shooting a 9 hour wedding for us on saturday night at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Westchester, Ron grabbed 3 hours of sleep and heading off to his next day’s assignment – shoot the New York Giants at the Superbowl for his “other job”, the new york daily news. i consider my team of photographers among the best at capturing those split second funny moments that go on at weddings. but sometimes humor comes not from something that happens at the wedding but comes from the photographer and the actual act of “fixing” the image. in these cases, there is no ‘joke’ per se outside the photograph itself.
