new york magazine weddings winter 2011

Not sure if you got a chance to see the latest New York Magazine Weddings Issue… but we were delighted that we were asked to share our images of Ranee and Nir for both a feature wedding and the introduction for their Album Section.

Below, Ranee gets ready in the Presidential Suite of The Plaza Hotel.

And the best part for you 80s disco/funk  junkies – their band was Kool And The Gang.

Cake by Sylvia Weinstock.

vanessa + david – part 1

we’ve had so many requests for more of vanessa and david’s wonderful wedding that we thought we’d share a few more select images from their fab day at The Plaza ….

Below:  Seth Rogen helps out a fellow groomsmen get dressed and gets some added encouragement.

David and Vanessa see each other for the first time in a secluded area of Central Park.

The celebrity studded groomsmen take a break on Central Parks’ Bow Bridge.

The goofy group had a great time hammin’ it up – brining their LA-based love for the camera to NYC.

But the ceremony was touching and very emotional – quite old school – and a big contrast to the horsing around in the Park.

And below you have the one and only ChuppaCam in action.  I wanted a birds eye shot of the kiss in the context of the beautiful setting that Michelle Rago had created in The Terrace Room at The Plaza – but since I’m really against intruding on the sanctity of the ceremony we came up with a plan to rig up a remote triggered camera that we buried in the canopy of the Chuppa.  The camera was completely covered with leaves so that it was completely invisible to the guests and we triggered it wirelessly.

We have loads of beautiful portraits of David and Vanessa but I wanted to show you this one since I think it really captures the playful spirit of this special couple.  Vanessa with her nose slightly scrunched – David goofing around but through that – you can feel the real love and connection that these two have for each other.  Beyond being able to capture all the beauty and the grandure and the moments and the details, I think the real magic of photography – is capturing the personalities of my couples.

Lots of wonderful images to share from the celebrity filled evening as well coming soon.

Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) Award

We’ve won an award in this quarter’s WPJA Photo Competition for a shot from Vanessa Britting and David Krumholtz’s celebrity packed wedding at The Plaza Hotel.

I’m a fan of the WPJA since the way they run their competition puts every Wedding Photojournalist on even footing.  Every member get’s the same limited number of entries so you can’t buy yourself an advantage like many photographers do in other competitions.  You also don’t name your photos or provide any additional information about the backstory.  If the photo doesn’t say it – it doesn’t factor into the judging.   You also can’t photoshop your image – so there’s none of that crazyness.  Get it right in the camera or go home.  Lastly, it is a true worldwide competition with thousands of photographers competing (it’s amazing how many great pj wedding images come from Eastern Europe!) so even a sixth place is pretty cool.  This is our 5th winner in WPJA contests.

p.s.  Can you spot the 3 videographers?

See more of this wedding in the forthcoming New York Magazine special Weddings issue.

david krumholtz weds vanessa britting at the plaza hotel

great wedding this weekend with David Krumholtz, star of Numb3rs marrying Vanessa Britting, from The Young and the Restless and Without a Trace.

the celebrity filled bridal party (that’s Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel,  Gregg Bello and Martin Starr above) and guest list made things a bit interesting – i’m not really used to going on shoots in central park with a security detail and hiding in the rambles… but we love changing things up.

but i had sussed out well in advance that this hot dog vendor posed no threat…

and a great party – and one of my faves…  we all had a really great time working together.

many thanks to the multitalented (and even more importantly – fun to work with) Michelle Rago who did a great job planning the wedding.

more to come…

debra + william – wedding at the plaza hotel

If you’re looking to have an old school new york city wedding you can’t do much better than The Plaza Hotel.  Debra however wanted it to reflect a bit of her personality as well so she meticulously planned out some amazing details.

a new york wedding – the plaza hotel

i like to think of the work my photographers and I do as capturing the feeling and spirit of an event more than anything else.        feelings are so ephemeral – like smells – you can’t really describe them, you can’t really preserve them, yet every once in a while something hits you and voila you’re instantly transported right back to that moment.

i like to think these images will do that for our bride when she looks back on them years from now.

angela + marc – new york wedding at the plaza

I was fortunate enough to shoot Angela’s sister Gena’s beautiful wedding at The St. Regis a couple of years ago so I was thrilled when I got the call that Angela was engaged as well.

You might recall Angela + Marc’s engagement sesion from a couple of months back – she wore that stunning white feathered cocktail dress.  Well she really outdid herself for her wedding day with this little number by Monique Lhuillier.

And her sweet metallic fuschia Loubs.

Angela LOVES fushcia.  And anything that sparkles.  And she used both to their best advantage for her wedding theme.

When I showed up at Angela’s suite I had brought along the Signing Guest Book that we had made from the engagement portraits.  Their reaction just made my day.

We did our family formals outside The Plaza (gotta love those shoes!) And at one point while waiting for a missing family member, Angela decided to give her feet a rest and sit on the stairs.

These are the moments that I live for.   They’re just perfect and they happen by themselves and they only last a moment.  It’s like magic but you do need to be continuously looking for them and pray that you’re ready when they occur.

Downtown at Grace Church…

Apparently the ringbearer was under the impression that Angela might not make it down the aisle – so he decided he would give her some incentive.

There was another ceremony that day as well – a Korean Paebak.  Since this is Angela’s mother’s second paebak, she is exceptionally good at tossing those dates and nuts into the ceremonial cloth.

Apparently, her aim is so good that Angela and Marc will be having 16 children.

Guests were transported back to The Plaza by double decker tour buses.  With pink parasols for the ladies.

And of course, then there’s The Plaza’s Ballroom.

Bentley Meeker does the lighting.  And in the newly refurbished ballroom it’s so well integrated that it’s almost invisible.

Marc is the nicest guy.  You could tell he really adored Angela.

After awhile the waiters served flipflops on silver trays for the ladies to change into.

That really helped everyone get their groove on.

Angela and Marc took a moment later in the evening to enjoy the pictures we had taken that day.  Such a great way for the guests to experience all that happened that day that they weren’t privy too.  They go home feeling as if they were there all along.

And as the night progresses, the guestbook begins to fill up.

alana + andrew – the wedding day

Alana and Andrew were lucky enough to have one of those picture perfect Manhattan days – when the skies are crisp and the air moving – just perfect for wandering a bit in Central Park.

Not only are they great looking – but they are really fun to work with as well.

And their ringbearer was a stud too.
