The results of the Wedding Photojournalists Association were just announced yesterday and we were happy to find out that two of our images won awards.

The first, was from Nora and Matt’s wonderful wedding at The Metropolitan Club.  The second was from Tamara and Michael’s Engagement Session in SoHo.

tamra + mike – engagement portraits in soho

and i’ve never been able to use an electric chair as a prop before but you never know what you’ll find on city streets to use.

(and yes, those are real – but currently out of commission – electric chairs)

susan + damian – the portraits

Susan and Damian did their engagement session in SoHo to take advantage of “the local color”.

One thing I really love about street portraits is that you never know what you’re going to bump into that day that you can use. The people, the graffiti, the traffic, the light, the weather – NYC locations are really never the same twice.

3 Engagement Sessions

Great weather means everyone wants to get outside for their portrait sessions. I wanted to share a few images from some of the recent sessions we had.

Jen and Mike have an amazingly friendly dog, Baxter, who they wanted to feature in their session.

For the most part, Baxter is a total ham.

Although occasionally he gets embarrassed by all of the attention he gets.

Next we have Carla and Stephen.

Carla and Stephen met at McSorley’s so that’s where we went for their engagement portraits. Now most New Yorkers will know that McSorley’s isn’t really the kind of place you go looking for romance. It’s more the kind of place you go for homemade beer (light or dark) with good friends. You can only go with very good friends because the primary food there is a plate of cheese, onions and Nabisco saltines (still in the white wrapper). After a plate of raw onions, the only people that will still talk to you will be your very best friends.

And if raw onions alone don’t stifle the opportunities to find love, the fact that McSorley’s has not been dusted since it was founded in the 1800′s and therefore has it’s own ecosystem hanging from the lamps will.

But against these odds Stephen and Carla met and ultimately fell in love. Such a cute and fun pair…

Sarah and Tim had come into town from Boston just for their engagement session and they weren’t about to let a little rain deter them from having a good time. So we went on a hunt for dry spots in SoHo…

and we always manage to find something that’ll work.

Here’s our secret… the glass overhang… like magic – no rain.

Finally, the rain backed off a bit and we got to move out from under the overhang…

I love it when people just don’t let the weather ruin their day. In the end, these people always manage to make their own sunshine.

renee + francois – the engagment portrait session

Renee and Francois are going to be having a smaller wedding here at the Rainbow Room and then a large wedding in Hong Kong and they wanted to get some engagement shots that they should show at their wedding in China to give a sense of what their New York was like.

We ended up in Chinatown thinking that the family and friends in Hong Kong would get a kick out of a glimpse of Chinese life here in the big apple.

I hope it’s as much fun in Hong Kong as we had in Chinatown.
