After shooting  a 9 hour wedding for us on saturday night at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Westchester, Ron grabbed 3 hours of sleep and heading off to his next day’s assignment – shoot the New York Giants at the Superbowl for his “other job”, the new york daily news.  Was he phased?  Here’s his Daily News covershot of the New York Giant’s quarterback Eli Manning.

Nora & Matt – the knot new york special edition winter 2011

The Metropolitan Club is one of the grandest spaces of old New York.  The club was founded by JP Morgan (supposedly because as a member of the nouveau riche he was not accepted as a member to the other proper gentleman’s clubs of that day.  (so he figured he’d build his own).  Even though still a private club – this wondrous Stanford White designed palazzo does still play host to many of the weddings that we shoot.  One of our recent weddings at the club has been featured in the most recent issue of The Knot and we thought we’d share Nora and Matt’s big with you.

First, our highlights:

And The Knot spread (I know I’m an issue behind…):

And no, we haven’t been asked to join yet and are therefore considering building our own club on 5th Avenue too.

as we see it – humor

i consider my team of photographers among the best at capturing those split second funny moments that go on at weddings.  but sometimes humor comes not from something that happens at the wedding but comes from the photographer and the actual act of “fixing” the image.  in these cases, there is no ‘joke’ per se outside the photograph itself.

i thought i’d share a couple of examples of these over the next few days.

case in point:

“I can tie my shoes all by myself.”

new york magazine winter feature

Just wanted to finally give props to Ron who shot the “epic” section header for The Reception section of New York Magazine’s Winter Weddings Issue.  It was another beautiful wedding design by Jung Lee of Fete and was held at the amazing Brooklyn Museum.

we will share more details of this stunner of an event shortly.

lauren + chris – a preview

Well, the season has been an extremely busy one for us and while we’ve been keeping up with the work for our clients, it has been at the expense of our blog.  But never fear – we’re on it.
And here to kick off the fall season is are a few highlights from last week’s wedding with Lauren and Chris.

Lauren arrived at the church in a perfectly restored Model A Ford.

Lauren awaiting her big moment… the cue to walk down the aisle.

Ron’s alternative take on the recession.

Chris and Lauren wave goodbye as they depart the church in the Model A.
(What I thought was amazing was that the gas gauge is actually a small glass window through which you actually see the gasoline sloshing around. – scary!)

Ron had to address the issue, “What do you do when you’re shooting outside on the streets with fifteen (15!) groomsmen and it starts to rain”?

I think funniest shot of the day goes to Ron – who got this great one of Chris (who is a banker).

Many many thanks go to the fabulous Claire Bean who planned this event.  There are some people that do a great job at event planning and design and are really FUN to work with and we put Claire at the top of that category. We just love her.

wellwed hamptons

we are so pleased to have a few images included in the new spring/summer 2011 issue of wellwed hamptons!

taylor and brett’s wedding images (above) are also featured as one of wellwed magazine’s real weddings online. deservedly so – the wedding was stunning and the images are beautiful! check it out here.

adriana and josh’s images (above) were used in a color story for their “woodland” color palette. one of our favorite event designers, clarie bean, used green and white flora to compliment the organic beauty of bedell cellars.

for more inspiration, ideas and beautiful imagery, you should grab a copy of the magazine – on newstands now!

pdn top knots 2011 – fin

PDN has just released the results of their annual Top Knots contest. This image from David and Vanessa’s wedding snagged a place in the receptions category!

The image, titled “Fin”, was used to end the article. Clever, PDN… very clever!

winter wedding at pleasantdale chateau

you might recall raya and adam from their wonderful engagement session in madison square park. we recently shot their wedding at Pleasantdale Chateau – which, incidentally, is where Celeste and I got married, so it was especially fun for us as we felt we got to relive our own wedding from the other side of the lens.

Twas a bitterly cold winter day so we were lucky to have a place like the Chateau since there are so many great rooms to work with inside.  Fountain rooms, garden rooms, a pool /solarium, billiard rooms to name a few (this place goes on forever).

We did venture out for a brief brisk walk…

kim got this wonderful shot of the ketubah – she managed to get the entire line of gold ink to perfectly reflect the light so it makes a really strong focal point

under the chuppah…

and immediately following the ceremony…

new york magazine weddings winter 2011

Not sure if you got a chance to see the latest New York Magazine Weddings Issue… but we were delighted that we were asked to share our images of Ranee and Nir for both a feature wedding and the introduction for their Album Section.

Below, Ranee gets ready in the Presidential Suite of The Plaza Hotel.

And the best part for you 80s disco/funk  junkies – their band was Kool And The Gang.

Cake by Sylvia Weinstock.

Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) Award

We’ve won an award in this quarter’s WPJA Photo Competition for a shot from Vanessa Britting and David Krumholtz’s celebrity packed wedding at The Plaza Hotel.

I’m a fan of the WPJA since the way they run their competition puts every Wedding Photojournalist on even footing.  Every member get’s the same limited number of entries so you can’t buy yourself an advantage like many photographers do in other competitions.  You also don’t name your photos or provide any additional information about the backstory.  If the photo doesn’t say it – it doesn’t factor into the judging.   You also can’t photoshop your image – so there’s none of that crazyness.  Get it right in the camera or go home.  Lastly, it is a true worldwide competition with thousands of photographers competing (it’s amazing how many great pj wedding images come from Eastern Europe!) so even a sixth place is pretty cool.  This is our 5th winner in WPJA contests.

p.s.  Can you spot the 3 videographers?

See more of this wedding in the forthcoming New York Magazine special Weddings issue.
