“old school holdouts” take note.  in my opinion, it is much better for a bride and groom to see each other before their ceremony to do their portraits.  you just don’t get shots like these …

If you’re looking to have an old school new york city wedding you can’t do much better than The Plaza Hotel.  Debra however wanted it to reflect a bit of her personality as well so she meticulously planned out some amazing details.

like leopard print and purple table linens…

and these amazing flower filled birdcages…

and a cake to match.

making for a completely new spin on on school.

new york city wedding photography always has to push an envelope in some way – in a city filled with unique people you need to provide unique wedding images in unique locations – like the Ghostbusters’ firehouse.

But let’s start at the beginning.

Dorothy’s ruby red slippers ain’t got nuthin’ on Francine’s tourquoise Loubatins.

in my photography lectures, I always stress how unique shots are everywhere around us – you just need to have your eyes open, think outside the box and be willing to ask for crazy things with a straight face.

excuse me, Mr. UPS Man, would you mind if we climbed in the back of your truck for a sec?  In the case of the Ghostbusters’ Firehouse shot (top and below), I actually had the Fire Chief move the ladder truck forward to even out the light across the face of the truck and the firehouse.

The 18 person bridal party on our way to Tribeca Rooftop.  Keeping the ladies having a good time while avoiding breaking their ankles on cobblestones while in high heels is a neat trick.

I received this note the other day from a bride of mine whose wedding we shot 2 years ago and thought I’d share it.

Hi Brian-

It has been just two years since you shot our wedding and I just wanted to thank you again for the job that you and your team did. Aaron and I were just flipping through our album, reminiscing about the day, and it is amazing how much emotion you were able to capture in all of the pictures. The images bring back all of the memories and the excitement of the day, which can be felt looking through the album.  There are a few in particular that bring me back to the exact moment when Aaron and I saw each other for the first time before the ceremony and it’s like being there all over again.

Our wedding really was one big party- exactly what we were hoping for- and that is the exact feeling we get looking through our album. It was such a special day, one that we and our families love to remember and talk about and we are lucky to have such amazing pictures to look back on.

and a party it was…

Ron and I worked together again when Soyeon and Tim were married at Glen Island.

Here’s a shot Ron took of Soyeon and the girls…

We got into the fact that Tim works for a large aerospace manufacturer and could name for us every plane as it went overhead.

Ron got this cool ceremony shot as Soyeon was walking down the aisle.

Then during cocktails, it was time for the Paebak.

Apparently, since Soyeon and Tim caught so many dates and nuts in their silk as their parents threw them they are going to have 23 children.

If it’s true, I’m wishing you both lots of luck with that…

karli and kevin had our self portrait studio at their reception and once again, it was a huge hit.  this time we fit it into a cute little brick nook.  and as usual, things start out kinda calm…

and since guests see the image that they’ve taken immediatly after taking it – they tend to get incited to riot…

at least until the drinks make the single button remote seem challenging…

karli and kevin were married at the bowery hotel -the first of two weddings coincidentally that we shot at The Bowery in a single week.

i thought karli and kevin’s invitation was really cool.

and although it rained most of the day Karli looked radiant

There’s something really special that happens when a wedding officially creates a new nuclear family.  Such was the case with Shelly, Stu, Maddie and Billy.

Stu is a former co-worker of mine back from my corporate days who has been raising Maddie and Billy as a single father since shortly after Billy was born.  He was fortunate to find someone like Shelly who was the type of person who could easily slip into the roles of both spouse and mother to his two children.  As such, it wasn’t your typical wedding of a bride and a groom – it was a celebration of what it means to me a family.   And it was a delight that I could capture it for them.

Billy was especially excited since he got to wear A TIE!

and he felt good.

really good.

He and Maddie were ready to take on the world.  After all, it was their wedding day!

But when Billy got his groove on later in the evening – it was clear he was just hitting his stride.

But in the end, it really was the creation of something special.

And the guests and family members alike was delighted for each and every one of them.

michelle and chris got married on a beautiful day in Greenwich at the Bellehaven Country Club.

In trying to pull together this blog entry I was trying to select a few images that represented the day, but I found that I couldn’t pick just one from the perfect little vignette that I captured of Michelle as she walked out on the balcony of the 2nd floor.  She and her bridesmaids were waiting for her guests to arrive and ceremony to begin.  So here’s all 6.

i was so looking forward to ranee and nir’s wedding at the plaza  – not only because I love them, and I love the plaza, but also because they had Kool and the Gang as their band!  here’s a few highlights and the whole story can be seen below.

ranee’s custom catherine malandrino dress made her look like a greek goddess.

The event’s romantic design were done by Ed Libby.

Ed and his team really made it feel like dining with royalty.

Kool and the Gang really rocked it – and they had a good time doing so.

and the classic Sylvia Weinstock cake.

what a great evening!  and an extra special thanks to Tammy Meltzer of CPS Events for taking such good care of everybody and coordinating the day.
