cole gives maddie a haircut

This is the beautiful Maddie.

maddie

She’s best buds with my son Cole.

They like to hang out and do things together – like pairs corn shucking.

Unfortunately, sometimes when they hang out, their parents forget to watch them closely.

Recently, they were styling each other’s hair. A brush and a spray bottle of water kept them entertained and quiet for a long time. All was well, until, unbeknownst to us, they got ahold of some scissors.

Cole was stylist extraordinaire -

And he had a slightly different interpretation for her style.

But they loved it.

Fortunately, Maddie’s mom was cool about it. She even had the sense to not make a huge deal of it and make Maddie feel bad about it.

We all learned our lesson that day.

Cole learned that you don’t cut people’s hair even when they’re cool with it.

We parents learned that when the kids are really quiet, you need to check on ‘em. They are definitely up to no good.

a couple of engagement sessions

Below are a few shots from Lisa and John’s engagement session in Central Park. These guys were so much fun.
Following the shoot, we stopped off at The Champagne Bar at The Plaza to celebrate. It’s so funny. Everyone anticipates that the engagement portrait shoot is going to be this really painful thing. But universally, my clients end up having a good time.

And they’re also surprised by how closely connected they feel to each other when it’s over. (nothing like a little touching and kissing to get people close)

And while they tell me that they feel very connected to me too, I never seem to get more than a great big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Below are some images from our session with Jennifer and David. David had to fly in to New York just for our shoot. We had a great time whizzing around SoHo and Jennifer was just a blast to work with. I can’t wait for their wedding here in Tribeca – it’s going to be so much fun to get out on the streets with them again.

kate + chris – the wedding day by Alfonse and Chris

These beautiful shots of Kate and Chris are from a wedding shot by two of my Associates (and friends), Alfonse and Chris. These guys rock. Alfonse is a fine art photographer and Chris is a concert/music photographer. In fact, this month alone, Chris will be published in Rolling Stone, Vibe and Blender. I’m really honored to be able to work with them as part of our team.

“It’s like rain… on your wedding day…” I hear that Alanis Morissette song in my head every time it looks like cruddy weather on someone’s big day. Below is Kate contemplating her weather fate on her rainy wedding day.

But you can see how she lights up when her sunshine, Chris, sneaks up behind her.

I love Kate’s smile. It makes you smile right along with her.

It just goes to show you – you make your own sunshine.

a few moments from a few weddings…

It’s been a crazy busy summer and once again the blog has had to take a backseat to “work work”. As we begin to come up for air, I thought it would be nice to just catch everyone up with a few shots from each of the many events we did in the last few months.

If you had to script a shot to show that classic moment of tension just before the bride goes down the aisle I don’t think you could do much better than this image of Sarah lost in the moment. A mysterious hand adjusting her veil and that’s her father checking his watch in the background.

Ready or not…. here we come.

And what makes these images extra special is the fact that Sarah is the third generation in her family to get married in this church in Manhattan.

Daniella and Adam were high school sweethearts growing up in Livingston, NJ together. It was inevitable that they would tie the knot and have a great time doing it.

Stunning, right?

They really act like best friends. You can see it in their photographs.

But the coolest part? Knishes, Pastrami Reubens, Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry Soda and Egg Creams during cocktails! Awesome. Now either you appreciate this stuff or you don’t. Personally, this is how I get in touch with my roots. And if you’ve never had an egg cream with a pretzel, well – you gotta expand your horizons and make new friends. This is not for tribe members only.

Dinner service was stunning as well.

Lastly, I wanted to share with you some shots from Sayuri and Jeff’s Wedding at The Metropolitan Club in NYC.

Now while Sayuri looked stunning in bridal white …

Check her and her bridesmaids out in their Eastern garb.

Sayuri also wins the annual prize for best calligraphy. Such a wonderful dying art.

Even the cake was designed to match the outfits.

Such a pleasure to work with so many wonderful designers, caterers, artists, stylists – they just give us so much to work with!
