josie & mandy’s portraits

I got a chance to do portraits of my good friend Julie’s two beautiful girls, Josie(3yrs)and Mandy(4 weeks)today.

Now tell me, are these girls priceless or what?

renee + francois – THANK YOU! You’re my Guitar Heroes!

Renee and Francois are just the sweetest and kindest couple. The night I shot their wedding, Francois, who works for a company that markets Guitar Hero III for the Wii actually schlepped one TO HIS WEDDING to give to me at the end of the night. This was about a week before they were actually available on the market. How amazing is that? I was PUMPED!!

It’s got to be the absolutely coolest thank you gift I think I ever have received. Needless to say, I got home that evening from their wedding at The Rainbow Room and still managed to find enough energy to play Guitar Hero for about 2 hours straight.

I figured it was my only chance, since once my kids caught sight of it the next morning, I’d never be able to get my hands on it again.

And sure enough..

Thank You so much Renee and Francois for such an amazing and thoughtful gift! YOU ROCK!

cole

Thought I’d share a few shots of my youngest, Cole.
There was one warm winter Sunday afternoon awhile back and I said to Cole, “Hey, you want to go out and make some pictures?”
Now, I’m pretty used to the “No, thank you” by now so I was surprised when he agreed. Two shots about 2 blocks away from home and the shoot was over. But I got something for the family albums that my wife puts together.

These next two though, taken with my brother, Mike, really portrays the true personalities of both of them.

kim + aaron – the wedding day

Wanted to share a few images from the wedding of Kim and Aaron that we shot awhile back.

These guys are so great and they are fellow Tribecans. (is that a word?)

Didn’t Kim look beautiful?

Kim and her mom wait in the limo before entering the church. Isn’t the anticipation palpable?

And a celebration it was… Kim’s entry with Aaron – with a flourish!
Look at the expression of their friends in the background. Priceless.

Revisiting Hand Finishing & Production Techniques

Periodically I revisit and continue to refine a couple of post-production techniques that I began developing about 6 years ago.

I’ve been overprinting, overbrushing, texturizing, painting, and experimenting with a variety of gel mediums, dyes, and thinners. And I think that a few of them are really finally beginning to take on the look that I was after. Here’s a couple of the latest experiments.

Please let me know what you think…

The New Year

Today seems like a good day to start on # 62 one of my 217 New Years Resolutions – “keep the blog up to date”.

So many wonderful things have gone on since my last post I don’t even know where to start. We’ve had some awesome events and really fantastic portrait sessions but before I bring you up to date on those (which will realistically take a few entries) I wanted to start with favorite subjects, my personal muses – my boys…

Like any kids, they don’t want to have their picture taken. But an occasional bribe of a new Pokemon can get them to sit for 2 seconds. The two seconds…

process – tilt-shift/sx70/cross processed

But most of the time they’re moving and there’s no sense in trying to stop them so you just adjust the technique to fit the subject.

Then Cole wants to be the photographer…

Here he is giving me instructions on what to do while he shoots….

And in exchange for 2 minutes behind the camera, he gave me another 2 seconds in front of the camera.
