brooke + greg – the wedding @ the ocean club/paradise island

It was off to beautiful Paradise Island this week to join Brooke and Greg at their wedding at The One and Only Ocean Club. Even the flight down had an extra special treat for us – the movie was Casino Royale – the latest James Bond flick – which was actually filmed at The Ocean Club.

The setting for the ceremony was really idyllic. It was set on a mountain top overlooking the rest of the club where a cloisters that had been moved from Italy had been set.

Take a beautiful location…

mix in a really cute flower girl…

and you create magic.

Brooke’s mother, Jackie had an amazing tent erected and lined with about a bazillion miles of silk and crystal chandeliers to create a wonderfully ethereal reception space.

As exciting as it is to shoot such a great couple in such a beautiful space, I have to say, that the time we had the next day at the new water park at the Atlantis was pretty thrilling too. Next time we bring the kids.

marlene’s birthday extravaganza

I remember reading some article awhile back on maximizing customer satisfaction that said you’ll know that you’re doing things right when your customers keep returning to you – effectively becoming customers for life.

This weekend’s event marks the 3rd time that Marlene has called on us to work with her and her wonderful family on their marvelous events. I love Marlene. She’s so fun to work with and her parties are always amazing.
And of course Marlene’s Birthday Party once again exceeded expectations.

She, her husband Neal, and her event planner, Judith Ness along with the amazing Philip Baloun of Philip Baloun Studio Designs took all of their guests back in time and turned Cipriani 23 into the most wonderful supper club.

And the tables changed color with each course served…

And after dinner, everyone was treated to a special private concert…

…by Frankie Vallie – who was flown in just for this occassion. And I must say, Frankie Vallie rocked. I didn’t know that he did all those great tunes.

Just thrilled once again to have the chance to work with such great people (who really like to have fun!)

HB, Marlene!

tricia + john – the wedding day

Tricia is one of those people that hates having her picture taken as much as I do. But trust in your photographer can go a long way to alleviate the painful feeling and make it almost fun. So after she was done getting ready and I took a moment to show her a shot like this…

She said that she wanted to do this…

That’s the birds eye view of me photographing John seeing Tricia for the first time in Grand Central Station. Tricia had heard that I had done something similar the week prior and since this was one of her favorite buildings in Manhattan, she thought she’d muster the strength for it. And muster she did.

Isn’t it amazing how people just clear the way for a woman in a wedding dress? I don’t see why women don’t wear these things all the time. I mean seas practically part for a lady in a white gown.

I personally think that she drew the strength from knowing that she had someone who would be eager to carry her train and veil for her.

spring (break) is here!

Spring break means my boys were hanging around the studio during the day asking me to take them to the park, build a Star Wars X-Wing Fighter out of Legos, and play Zelda on the Wii. It also meant that most of the time I was out in Las Vegas at a photography conference. Great timing.

But I did get to record a bit of spring break with them.

Cole on the slide….

And below, on his bike. I also began experimenting again with something that I’ve been trying to do for awhile – cyanotype prints.

Then we were out at my parent’s for the holidays this week and we took the boys to the local park with their Jeep. I think the Paulo Roversi inspired shots I took feel like something out of a spread for…
