kate + james – the engagement session

I met Kate and James up at the NY Public Library at 42nd street for their session. Kate had wanted to use some classical NY architecture as her backdrop and you can’t get more classical than this place. What we hadn’t planned for was the bomb scare that shut down 5th avenue for a while when we started. It’s always something here.

James was throwing out the kind of crazy ideas I usually have to coax people into. He’s like, “Hey, we could climb up there onto the fountain!” Kate asked, “What about the cops?” And James and I just looked at each other, “Ahhh… they won’t care. They’re busy with the bomb scare.” And voila – here’s the shot. It was quite a trek for them to get up there and I don’t think there are many shots like this one. They are literally on a tiny ledge about 8 feet off the ground in a fountain on the front of the NYPL. Funny thing is, I never even noticed these giant fountains before. Kate’s a great sport.

While Bryant Park was being totally torn up and rebuilt from Fashion Week, we did get to ride the Carousel there.

Carousels really should be required riding for adults at least once a year.
